Really noisy. Lot of hum and thumping sounds between tracks and at low parts of songs. And no, it’s not my “rig”. This release is not audiophile at all.
Jare
Had it and listened to it many times over the years. Got rid of it recently because i still have the original lp. Because i can compare the two - the original far outweighs this reissue. By far.
Meri
I beg to differ on everyone's opinion about this pressing. Mine is quiet, sounds really good and with no problems whatsoever. Sometimes (might not apply all the time) people tend to blame the sound of an album when they do not realize its their rig that might be the problem. You do not need a $10,000 rig to tell, just a good pair of ears and a decent stereo and phono stage. Check your rig before judging about the sound quality of a reissue. This one sounds excellent.
DART-SKRIMER
Yep! Your review is spot on..mine sounds amazing too dx
Falya
My copy doesn't have the "Back In Black" sticker, bought and sourced from Europe and has no problems whatsoever. The copy was bought in 2016. Side B reveals the records to be the "variant 1". Can anyone confirm which variant was the faulty one?
Steel_Blade
Very Good pressing in my opinion. I dont have any of those problems mentioned below.
SmEsH
Does anyone knows if there's a difference in sound quality between the US and Europe versions of the B0011697-01 release? The only difference I have been able to find is the Back to Black sticker.
Jogrnd
If I'm not mistaken, Trent Reznor reacted on Twitter or somewhere when this version was released saying that he was not behind this reissue. It sounded like if he didn't want us to buy it. Someone remembers this?
Barinirm
I have a reissue of PHM from 2010 and it sounds like, to quote Kurt Cobain, "a f---ing abortion hitting the floor." Seriously, my pretty well-worn cassette version sounds better. If Trent authorized that.. then he needs to watch over the vinyl reissues. Thank god for the reissues this year.. he's going back and carefully remastering all the stuff except PHM. Looking forward to maybe procuring a copy of Broken.
krot
I don't remember for the Downward Spiral but Im sure for some Pretty Hate Machine reissues 'cause there was some Unofficial versions of PHM Remaster with bad pressing ....
Legionstatic
Not sure if this pressing just sounds rough, or if the album just sounds that way normally. Haven't spent enough time listening to a digital version to compare. Also looking into wether or not Closer ended up being pressed or mixed at a slightly different speed than the original. Something about it sounded off.
Miromice
Bought this same version twice. With first purchase thought it was just a scratch on an otherwise dynamic and beautiful vinyl recording. Both versions purchased on Discogs from two unrelated stores in separate parts of the country. The song 'Hurt' skips and often stops. Bought & received today, 2nd copy... Identical problem! I'll keep it after this, great song but I have it on digital. Sad, but makes this version unusual.... Surely I'm not the only?
Forcestalker
Hurt Skips on me too. It's a crying shame, since that's my favorite NIN song.
Cha
I don't know if I got a bad print, but I have this back to black version, and it sounds amazing except for side B. Side B is bad. It pops loss a lot. I've read so many good things about this version, so maybe I will pick another up and compare, but my side B is really bad. Anyone else experience these issues?
virus
Is this really rare now? Lowest price is $95...
Najinn
hi! a definitive reissue of TDS is coming this fall (2017) thru NIN.com. Pre-orders are up now!
Daron
yeah it's really rare
Kitaxe
Just picked this up.. and had read very conflicting things about the Back to Black pressings.. glad to see that the people below are enjoying this one.. anxious to get it spinning!
Delari
This is the best sounding record in my collection, and I have some MOFI stuff. Incredibly well done!
Glei
well done for sure
Umdwyn
k no one cares
Kabei
Anyone have a pressing of this but with flipped labels? Side A is labelled B, etc.?
Aiata
Same thing for me for this copy .
TheMoonix
Yeah just got one the other day. Put on what was supposed to be side A according to the label and it was side B
Fordg
I just got mine today, same thing. Maybe it'll be worth more in the future or something.
Fordrekelv
Wow. This pressing is incredibly dynamic and clean. Whoever pressed this knocked it right out of the park. Excellent release.
Fearlesshunter
My version has the 180 gram vinyl, the remastering and is in gatefold sleeve though..This is still the 2008 remaster correct? Even though the only gatefold sleeves were attributed to the 1994 releases.
Whiteseeker
Fantastic pressing. I mean, aside from the fact the intro to Reptile was cut off, it was perfect. It was unavoidable, though; Eraser kinda fades into Reptile to begin with.
Coirad
Well played ^_^
Charyoll
Do you mean to say that this pressing suffers from a reptile dysfunction?
Drelalak
Agreed! Just got this today and had to check here if anyone had commented on the pressing. Sounds FANTASTIC.
